Process Automation

Process automation integrates measuring devices, valves, controllers, automation systems and services into a complete solution that helps manage industrial processes reliably.
The state of production is measured continuously, data is analysed, and the process is guided in the right direction. Measurements may cover, for example, flow, pressure, temperature, level, concentration, energy use or emissions.
The Process Automation Section promotes dialogue between companies in the sector and supports the formation of a shared view. The section highlights the importance of process automation for Finnish industry and monitors technological and business developments in the field.
The importance of process automation is particularly emphasised in sectors where safety, quality, efficiency and environmental requirements are fundamental conditions for production. These include, for example, the food, chemical, metal and forest industries. Reliable measurement, effective automation and better use of data are key factors for the competitiveness, safety and responsibility of industry.
Measurement
Control
Diagnostics
Maintenance
Measurement data guides automation systems, controllers and valves in production management. At the same time, diagnostics obtained from devices support decision-making and enable predictive maintenance, which improves operational reliability and reduces downtime.

Digitalisation is changing the use of measurement data
In process automation, digital solutions, device diagnostics, cloud services and artificial intelligence are emerging alongside traditional measurement.
Industry has long used reliable measurement and data transmission technologies. Today, competitiveness is increasingly built on how effectively data from measuring devices, valves, systems and processes can be utilised.
When more information is obtained from devices, maintenance can be planned proactively. Servicing and repairs can be scheduled more effectively, downtime can be reduced, and safety can be improved. At the same time, information is more easily available in a situation where industry is facing a shortage of skilled professionals.
Comprehensive solutions for industrial needs
In process automation, products and services increasingly form a single integrated solution. In addition to equipment, industrial customers need design expertise, commissioning, calibration, maintenance, spare parts, risk management and modernisation.
The member companies of the section support their customers throughout the entire lifecycle of their processes. The goal is to ensure that measurements remain reliable, systems operate without disruption, and production is able to respond to changing requirements.
Automation is not merely an equipment purchase, but part of developing the customer’s business.
The Chairman of the section is Jarmo Himanka from Tecalemit Flow Oy and Juha Ala-Hiiro is the General Secretary of the section.
